The Environment in India

In India there are many environmental issues. The biggest problems are probably air and water pollution. The most important issue in the environment are slums, which are a feature of India.

In India hundreds of men, women and children die every year. The main reasons are unhealthy conditions and diseases which are part of everyday life in the slums.
Another important aspect is that India becomes more overpopulated every year with the result that water and electricity have greater value in the slums.
One more problem from the over-population is that the litter, which is produced daily, increases.

Because there are too many people in the slums, the logical reason concludes that food is scarce. It will not be long before the only two resources in the slums, potable water and food, will most likely be used up.
The children who live in the slums are negatively affected by the current environment.
Diverse types of animals, such as dogs, cats and rats, live in the slums and they often carry diseases which can be transferred to the children.

Compared to the book Slumdog Millionaire the slum is significant because it's a wonder if a boy manages to get out and find a job.
Often slums are on the outskirts of the cities, therefore it's hard for the children in the slums to find good transport to get to school, not just because the road to school is long, but also because the roads are often littered with rubbish which makes transport impossible.

Those are the main reasons why nearly no one from the slums have an eduction in any form.
In the book the protagonist Ram didn't just find the way out of the slum, but he also took part in the famous quiz show ”Who wants to be a billionaire?” and finally won a billion Rupees.
